Base 16 (hex) numbers take less space than Base 2 (binary) numbers. So they're a lot easier for humans to write and read. If you work with C code you'll often see hex numbers to represent memory addresses. Or, if you work in CSS, you're probably used to working with color codes - you probably didn't realize they were hex codes, did you!?
